Bertha was born in Liberty Twp, Coffey County KS to Henry Eugene and Sarah E Strickland. When she was eighteen she married Walter Bishop in Logan Co, OK. Their son Leonard was born Mar 13, 1903, but died just two weeks later. The marriage soon ended in divorce. On Dec 24, 1914 Bertha married Charlie Grubb in Coffey Co, KS. A daughter Ara Lee was born in 1917 and a son Jack was born in 1922. On Mar 2, 1924, after a very difficult labor Bertha and Charlie's second son was delivered stillborn. Two days later, Bertha, unable to recover died. She and the baby were both laid to rest in the Park Grove Cemetery.
