Laura M. Wilcox, age 86
Laura M. Wilcox, 86, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska.
She was born December 22, 1915, in Olpe, Kansas, to Joseph John and Mary Ann (Anthe) Voss. She attended and graduated from Hershey High School and went on to Kearney State College where she received her master's degree in Elementary Education at the age of 66. She taught at many different school districts including Hershey. Horseshoe Bend Rural Lexington, and Rural Gothenburg 100R.
On June 25, 1938, she married Clifford Wilcox in Hays, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2+88.
She was a member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church and the Nebraska State Teachers Association.
Laura enjoyed reading the paper, doing crossword puzzles, ad making her famous lemon and cherry pies.
Survivors include one son, Gilbert (Ina) Wilcox of Holdrege, Nebraska: three daughters, Janice (Wayne) Lichtenwalter of Lexington, Irene (Denny) Kenning of Smithfield, Nebraska, and Dee Kenning of Elwood; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; six brothers, four sisters; and one great-granddaughter, Laura.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 4, 2002. at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington, Nebraska, with Father Ray Kosmicki, officiating.
Burial was in the St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Lexington, Nebraska.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the Wilcox family for later distribution to Laura's favorite charities.
