lizabeth Ann" Betty" Armbrister Farley 87, of Fincastle Lane, Bluefield, Virginia died Monday, December 10, 2012 at her residence. Born May 16, 1925 in Damascus Virginia she was the daughter of the late George Stuart Armbrister and Stella Prince Bailey Armbrister. Betty was a graduate of Beaver High School and received her Master's degree in nursing from Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. She received the Florence Nightingale award for being the outstanding student in nursing at Duke University. Early in her nursing career, she worked for an ENT and later with Bluefield Sanitarium in the surgical department and retired from North American Rockwell in Princeton as their nurse. While her health permitted, Betty was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bluefield. Betty loved to sing, oil painting and was a collector of charming tale mice, having collected more than 400 which she placed on her Christmas tree every year for all to enjoy. Betty along with her late husband Jerry enjoyed traveling and shared many great memories on the Farley family trips throughout the country and the world. Betty was a devoted and loving wife, a good sister and a good friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 62 years, Norvil Lee "Jerry" Farley. Three brothers, George Armbrister Jr., Jack Armbrister and Jim Armbrister, along with three nephews, David Craig Armbrister, Kevin Armbrister, and Stephen Armbrister. Survivors include her brother Dr. David Armbrister and his wife Catherine of Princeton. Special friends whom she loved, Larry and Suzie Turner of Bluefield Virginia. Nieces and nephews, Patrick, Gregg, Jack, Tom, Lisa, Kathy, Brian, Mark, Blair, Kenneth, Jonathan and Jackson. And her little black poodle Zoe. Three sister in laws; Ann Armbrister, Jean Armbrister and Sarah Armbrister. Services to celebrate the life of Betty Farley will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December 15, 2012, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens road in Princeton with Pastor Susan Rector officiating. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley. A time of sharing and gathering will be held Saturday from noon until the service hour at the funeral home. Memorial gifts of love can be made to the Craig Armbrister Foundation, c/o Tiffany Jones, at Bluefield High School, 535 West Cumberland Rd., Bluefield, WV 24701. The honor of serving the Farley family has been given to the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center, 654 Athens Road, Princeton, WV 24740.
