Betty Woodin, age 92, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, August 11, 2008 at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Walter B. and Estella M. (Howard) McCaulley on August 15, 1915 in Albia, Iowa. She received her education in the Ottumwa Community Schools.
On May 29, 1935, Betty was united in marriage to Winfield Kaster, the couple were later divorced. She would later marry Frank Earl Woodin on August 19, 1975 in Bear Lake, Warren County, Pennsylvania. Betty lived in Marion and Monroe Counties' before moving to Centerville. She worked as a cook and waitress in several cafes in Centerville, including Tom Maine's Cafe. Betty enjoyed crocheting, Cooking, Crafts, fishing and just being outdoors. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Centerville, where she taught Sunday school and Bible School for many years. She also was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans and the 18/80 Club.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Florence Miller; husband, Frank Earl Woodin on November 24, 1995; brothers, Walter J. McCaulley, Lyle McCaully, Blaine McCaulley and Jackie McCaulley; sisters, Josephine McDanield and Roberts Freet.
Betty is survived by: her sons, Jack Kaster and his wife, Arlene of Centerville, Iowa and Jerry Kaster and his wife, Janice of Urbana, Ohio; step-daughters, Barbara Vorse of Youngstown, Pennsylvania and Cherin Mehs of Jamestown, New York; Nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Gerald Campbell officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Albia, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.
