Victor Leroy "Roy" Sims, born April 6, 1919, age 93, of the Flat Creek area of Sevier County, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012, on the farm where he was born and raised. Roy was owner and operator of Sims Point Campground on Douglas Lake for around thirty years.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Veleta Joy Loveday Sims; his parents, Mack D. Sims and Lucy Belle Fowler Sims; infant son, David Leon Sims; brother, Ralph Sims; and sister, Anna Ruth Sims Lafollette.
Roy is survived by his children: Mary Helen Sims Smelcer and husband Dwight; Larry Sims and wife Brenda; Vicky Sims Tarwater and husband Keith; grandchildren, David Lee Sims, Travis Sims, Jon Smelcer and wife Amy, Alan Smelcer and wife Ivy, Derek Romines and Spring, Laurel Keathley; great-grandchildren, Olivia Raye Smelcer, Flynn Ephraim Smelcer, and Sean Thomas Romines; sister-in-law, Reva Lee Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service and interment 11 AM Monday, December 24, 2012, in Providence Cemetery with Rev. Earl Lane officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be his son and grandsons. The family will receive friends from 1-4 PM on Sunday December 23, 2012, at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
