Elaine Pennington

"Elaine Pennington, 86, a lifetime resident of North Lewisburg, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, in Springfield Regional Medical Center.

She was born July 12, 1926, at home in North Lewisburg. She was a 1944 graduate of North Lewisburg High School. Elaine retired after 30 years of service from Triad High School as a cook. She supported the school by selling tickets for the different athletic events well into her 80s.

She was very active in the North Lewisburg United Methodist Church more than 75 years. She sang in the choir, participated in the United Methodist Women and baked many pies for the county fair projects. Elaine loved music; she enjoyed singing solos, playing the piano and organ and was an avid supporter of the "Marysville Swingers Unlimited Show Choir." She loved to travel, but most of all she loved to follow her grandchildren's activities. Elaine's Lifetime Motto was Do unto others as you would have others do unto you, and that was how she lived her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Vallery of Tavares, Florida, and Mary Melissa Cunningham of Marysville; her sister, Pearl Elizabeth Collinson of Marysville; her grandchildren, Scott (Sharon) Vallery of Bellbrook, Ohio, Shawn (Lori) Vallery of Tiffin, Ohio, Alasun (Cory) Hoffmann of Dallas, Texas, Breanna Cunningham of Marysville, Ohio, and Joseph Cunningham of Marysville, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Lydia and Jackson Vallery of Tiffin, Ohio; special friends, Pat Phillips of North Lewisburg and Wilda James of Urbana; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Mary (Bloomquist) and Lawrence Harlow Burroughs; her husband, Joseph Pennington Jr., whom she married April 21, 1945; her daughter, Sally Jo Pennington; her brothers, Earl Harlow and William Clark Burroughs; and her sisters, Mary Blanche Cowgill, Hazel Anna Johnson, Florence Ellen Welch, Ruth Lavon Simpson and Ethel May Scheiderer.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2012, in the FRESHWATER, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, North Lewisburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012, in the North Lewisburg United Methodist Church with the Pastors Rev. Karen Montgomery and Rev. Kathy Reiff officiating. Cunningham, Joseph Cunningham, John Sharritts, Bill Ballinger and Dave King. Memorial contributions may be made in Elaine's memory to the North Lewisburg United Methodist Church Chime Fund, 124 W.
