Homer Alvin "Doc" Trisler
July 12, 1918 - December 15, 2012

Homer Alvin "Doc" Trisler, age 94, of Bloomington, died Saturday at I.U. Health; Bloomington. Born July 12, 1918 in Bloomington, he was the son of Homer and Fanny Elizabeth (Alexander) Trisler. He attended Bloomington Schools and served in the CCC camp. He retired from RCA in 1981 after 40 years of service. He was a member of McDoel Baptist Church where over 50 years he served as a trustee, deacon and with many committees in the church. He was also a member of the Monroe County Historical and Genealogical Society and the Jessamine County, Kentucky Historical Society. He loved Indiana University and the university athletics, especially football and basketball where he served as an usher and guard at football and basketball games for more than 35 years. He was named Honorary Captain of the I.U. Basketball team for the game against Wisconsin on February 25, 2010 as well as honored for his long service with the football team at the game against Iowa in 2011.

He is survived by two daughters, Judith Kaye Trisler, of Bloomington and Constance Shotts, of Monroe, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Janet Trisler; two grandchildren, Chantelle Petchul and her husband, Martin, of Matthews, North Carolina and Alex Trisler, of Bloomington; one great-granddaughter, Shannan Petchul, of Matthews, North Carolina; two sisters, Mildred Batchelor, of Arden, North Carolina and Lee (Warren) Patterson, of Newburgh, New York; niece, Ramona (Jim) Pound, of Wimauma, Florida; nephew Fred Dee Kern, of Beford, Indiana; nephew Robert Dennis Kern, of Bedford, Indiana; nephew Marvin Wayne Kern, of Florida; niece Sally Nedra Kern (Roger) DeKoker of Bedford, Indiana; niece Nikki Lee Kern (Tom) Wagoner; niece Myra Eileen Kern (Terry) Wilson; niece Sherry Lynn Kern; nephew James Scott Kern; niece Cheryl Patterson of Newburg, New York; nephew Warren Patterson of Newburg, New York; nephew Keith Houston, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Bonita Louise "Bonnie" Trisler, whom he married on Sept.5, 1939 in Bloomington. Bonnie died on June 12, 2011. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Eileen (Trisler) Kern and Waneta Inez (Trisler) Houston;brother, Wayne Everett and half-sister, Mary Alice "Hazel" (Trisler) Baugh.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 12 Noon at McDoel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 10 A.M.to 12 Noon at the church.

His paternal grandfather was Levi Lewis Trisler (born 30 Mar 1864; died 07 Dec 1929) who married Mary Elizabeth Warinner (born 07 Mar 1866; died 21 Nov 1961) on 05 Aug 1883. Levi Lewis and Mary Elizabeth had seven children: John Daniel Trisler, Homer Alvin Trisler, Cora Alice Trisler, Levi Huseph Earl Trisler and his twin Mary Susan Pearl Trisler, Edna Edith Trisler and Raymond Coldwell Trisler.

Levi Lewis Trisler was the oldest child of Daniel Trisler (born 22 Jan 1834; died 03 Feb 1867) and Amanda Rhorer Trisler (born 09 Oct 1835; died 27 Feb 1926)l they married 27 Aug 1856 in Monroe County. Their other children were Sarah Susan Trisler and Milton J. Trisler.

Daniel Trisler was one of the seven chldren of John Trisler (born about 1805 in Jessamine County, Kentucky; died 26 Jan 1882 in Lawrence County, Indiana) and Sarah Waggaman Trisler (born about 1807 in Jessamine County, Kentucky) and died 01 Sept 1853 in Monroe County, Indiana). The other children were Joshua Trisler, Jonathan Trisler, Martha Trisler, James Jefferson Trisler, Mary Ann Trisler, and John Trisler, Jr. who died of typhoid during the Civil War.

On Doc's maternal side, his mother, Fanny Alexander, was the only child of James Alvin Alexander (born Nov 1860; died 03 Jan 1928) and Elizabeth Clementine Bockman Alexander (born 19 Jun 1857; died 28 Nov 1932).

James Alvin Alexander was the only child of William James Alexander (born about 1835; died 12 Jul 1921) and his wife Elizabeth Chandler Alexander (born Feb. 1840; died 23 Jul 1920).

William James Alexander was the son of John H. Alexander and his second wife Margaret J. Clark Alexander. They had three other children: Frances Catherine Alexander (married John Young), Williamson Martin Alexander, and Robert Henry Alexander.

John H. Alexander was the son of William Alexander and Agnes Brewster Alexander, one of the three Brewster sisters for whom Dunn cemetery on the I.U. campus was established.
