Glenn W. Turner was the son of Glenn W. Turner, Sr. and Lava Ethyl (Spry) Turner and grew up in Carthage, Missouri with his brothers Gene and Gordon.

In the Navy during World War II, he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Wasp and was aboard when she was sunk, on September 15, 1942, by torpedos from a Japanese submarine. He later served on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid.

He married Margaret (Perryman, Watkins) Hagadorn on November 24, 1947. Margaret had two children with her from a former marriage, Jimmie Marie Hagadorn and John "Jack" Warren Hagadorn. Glenn was a wonderful father who loved his step-children as his own.
