“The community [Sheffield] was shocked and saddened Monday morning, May 26 when the news went over the wire that Geo. D. Bickford was dead, Mr. Bickford had been poorly tor some time, but had kept about his work with apparently good cheer until the death angel called him home. He will be greatly missed not only in his own home but in the community in which he lived and took such an interest. He was a heavy supporter of the F. B. church though not a member and was ever ready to help in any and every good cause needing aid. Too much praise cannot be said of his generosity. Another old veteran has left the ranks here and gone to join the ranks above where partings are never known. He leaves an aged wife, in very poor health, and two sons, besides a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. The funeral was at the house, May 28, Rev. E. E. Phillips of St. Johnsbury officiating. Interment at Glover cemetery.” (Orleans County Monitor, 4 Jun 1913)
