Belleview – Vernon Cox, 72, died at his residence on December 21, 2012. He was born in Olive Hill, KY on February 29, 1940 to the late Herbert and Dorothy (Carpenter) Cox. He was a retired (self-employed) optician for over 40 years. He attended Souls Harbor First Pentecostal Church, Belleview. Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara (Davidson) Cox; 3 daughters, Keena (Dennis) Haws, Lavern (Randy) Smith, Kari (Dan) Promutico; five grandchildren, Steven, Robert, Alex, Aaron and Katrina; four great-grandchildren, Kendall, Dalton, Marissa and Haley; brother, Garry (Birta) Cline; sisters, Patricia (Adrian) Wilkinson, Rita (Gary Lee) Rand, Porcha Taylor, Linda (Larry) Griffith and Sharon (Lowell) Sullivan. He is preceded in death by his Dad and Mom, and Step-dad Floyd Cline and brother, Donald R. Cox.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 5946 SE Robinson Road, Belleview with Pastor Jason Varnum officiating. Visitation will be from 1 – 3 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478.
