Born November 10, 1931, he was a son of the late Joseph Edwin and Gazelle South Akin. He was a brother of the late Dean, Hubert, and Dan Akin. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War. He was a retired welder for the Reliance Company. He was a member of Allens United Methodist Church.
Survivors include, his wife, Betty Wood Akin, son and daughter-in-law, James and Kelly Akin, Martin; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Keith Hall, Flowery Branch, GA; four grandchildren, Justin, Ansley, Alyssa, and Drew; brother, Morris Akin, Carnesville, and sister, Ann Mills, Salisbury, MD.
