Margaret E. Olson, 83, of Sault Ste. Marie passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Margaret was born in Hessel, MI on May 11, 1933, the oldest daughter of Clifford and Verna (Rapson) Frost.
Margaret married Wayne William Olson on November 11, 1960 and the couple raised four children. As a longtime resident of Sault Ste. Marie, she was a friendly and familiar face to all who knew her.
Margaret worked for Lake Superior State University for more than 30 years. As the payroll administrator for the university, she was a trusted colleague to many. She was diagnosed with cancer twice during her employment and rarely missed a day of work during treatments. While working for the university, she earned a bachelor's degree, taking a class at a time over many years. Margaret was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She enjoyed cooking large meals for her family and friends, was a fixture in the Soo community while attending her children's hockey games, dance recitals and various activities, and volunteering for the War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Margaret is survived by her four children: Jeff (Jody) Olson of Roberts, Wisconsin, Sue (Jim) Worsham of Sault Ste. Marie, Jon (Kristi) Olson of Ypsilanti, MI, Chris (Britt) Olson of Barbeau, MI, ten grandchildren: Robert (Kara) Thompson, Garth Olson, McKayla Worsham, Garrett Olson, Taylor Worsham, Gunnar Olson, Blake Olson, Siri Olson, Henry Olson and Thomas Olson; and two great grandchildren: Bo Thompson and Ellie Thompson. She is also survived by three sisters: Mary (Gene) Voss of Fort Wayne, IN, Ann (Don) Asbeck of Jackson, MI, and Noel (Don) Lasley of Saranac, MI; one brother: Joe Frost of Sault Ste. Marie; one sister-in-law: Doris Olson of Alpena, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Wayne Olson in 2005; her parents: Clifford and Verna Frost; three sisters: Donna Frost, Pat (Jimmy) Gammon and Carol (Burt) Almond; two brothers: Jim Frost and Jack Frost; a sister-in-law Joan Frost, and one brother-in-law: David Olson.
Visitation will be held at First United Presbyterian Church in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. with the funeral following at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Mark Gabbard officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House of the E.U.P or The First United Presbyterian Church of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Arrangements are in the care of Hovie Funeral Home.
