Daughter of Francis Pugsley James and Sally G. Clarke Wells James.

Born in Athens, Ohio per her obituary. Some previous researchers evidently listed the birth location as being in Indiana. Will use Athens, Athens county, Ohio for this memorial pending any direct documentation to the contrary.

Wife of William Francis James, married March 6, 1864 at the home of her father.

Note: the 1880 U.S. Census for this James family living in Buchanan TWP of Jefferson county provides the names of the children that are used in some family trees, while certain obituaries and headstone inscriptions vary. MRS. M. F. JAMES DIED EARLY TODAY

Funeral Friday Afternoon At 2 From The Christian Church

Mrs. Marcia F. James, a resident of this city for about 37 years, died this morning at 12:40 o'clock at her home 302 West Briggs, after having been seriously ill since last Wednesday night. The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Christian church in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly. Interment will take place in the Bethesda cemetery.

Mrs. James was the widow of William F. James, who died about 38 years ago. She was born June 21, 1843, in Athens, Ohio. She was the mother of ten children, five of whom have preceded her in death: Mrs. Lillie May Tinder, Cora, Eva, Emry (sic. Emery) and Lester. The following survive her: Joseph C. James and William B. James of Cedar Rapids; Charles F. James of near Fairfield, Mrs. F.J. Hardesty of Robstonw, Texas, and Mrs. W.D. Venosdel (sic. Elizabeth A. James Venosdel) of Vilas, Col. Mrs. James was the last surviving member of the Christian church here, which was organized September 19, 1858.

Inscription

As of 1978 her inscription was evidently much weathered on the west facing of the James' monument. Reportedly her name and dates were barely legible.
