Joel Olin Leftwich Jr., 89, died peacefully in Austin on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012. Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, in Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Ft. Worth. Interment will be 1 p.m., Saturday, in Rosemound Cemetery, Waco.
Joel was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Joel Olin Leftwich Sr. and Grace Sewell Leftwich. Graduating from Waco High School in 1941, he went on to Texas A&M University where he received a degree in industrial engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946, married in 1947, and moved to Fort Worth, where he raised his family and worked for General Dynamics for 32 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Vivion; daughters, Linda Jenkins and husband, David, Lexanne Van Osdol and husband, Scott, all of Austin, and Gail Leftwich and husband, Joe Paul, of Fayetteville, Ark.; grandchildren, Kate Spears and husband, Bryce, Luke Jenkins and Joel Paul; a great-granddaughter, Kaelani Spears; other relatives and many friends.
