Frank Allen (1934 - 2012)
Obituary
Canton, Mississippi
Frank Edward Allen, Jr., went to sing for the heavens Monday, December 17, 2012 at Hospice Ministries.
Everyone who ever met Frank was touched by a personality that was a true gift from GOD. He touched so very many with exuberance and his extreme love of family and his Ole Miss Rebels.
Frank was born, October 6, 1934 in Canton, MS to Frank and Louise Henry Allen, the youngest of two, brother to Elizabeth "Lib" Allen York. As a baby, he lost his mother and was raised by his grandmother and by the woman whom he lovingly referred to as Monee', Ethel Sneed Allen, she raised and loved him as her own.
A student at Ole Miss in 1952, he played the clarinet for the "Pride of the South", the Ole Miss Marching Band. A brief pause sent him to serve his country in the United States Air Force. While serving his country, he never skipped a beat by following his Rebels, and hitchhiked throughout the south to see them play. Returning to Ole Miss, he met his life's partner, Pat King of Memphis, TN. They married in 1961, and brought two daughters into this world.
He spent 15 years with Deposit Guaranty National Bank in Jackson before moving his family to Canton, in 1976 to work with his father at Canton Exchange Bank.
Frank was a long time member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he loved to participate in singing for the community at special events. He spent many active years in the Canton Community Players where he enjoyed to put on any kind of show. His most beloved Ole Miss was his passion in support. He never missed a Game Day in the Grove in over 50 years, and never missed an opportunity to share his stories and songs with everyone he met.
Preceded in death by his parents, Frank E. Allen, Sr., Louise Henry Allen, and Ethel Sneed Allen, a grandmother he loved so very dearly, Annie Cassell Allen, sister Elizabeth "Lib", York.
Frank is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia King Allen, daughters Cindy Allen Tullos of Canton, and Anne Cassell Allen Watkins (Thad) of Birmingham. Three grandchildren who knew him with abundant love as "Puffa": Lindsey Allen Tullos, of Jackson, Thad and Allen Watkins of Hoover, AL.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 18 from 5 - 8 pm at Breeland Funeral Home and again on Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service. Burial will be in the Canton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church of Canton, University of Mississippi Foundation, or the Ole Miss Band.
