Civil War Union Army Surgeon. He served during the Civil War first as a Captain in the 3rd Pennsylvania Reserves, then as Chief Surgeon of the 118th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, then finally as Chief Surgeon of the 82nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.

He was an original member of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, with his number being #000077.

On August 16, 1905 he filed for a United States Army Invalid Veteran Pension (Application #1339236, Certificate #1114954).
