Mrs. Gladys Ray Spainhour Richardson, 93, of Pilot Mountain passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the home of her daughter. She was born in Stokes County on October 2, 1919 to the late Romey and Devada Chandler Spainhour Richardson. Mrs. Richardson was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, Peggy Cox, with whom she made her home, of Pilot Mountain, Becky and Jack Barber of Dobson, Wanda and Tad Vogler of Westfield, Carolyn Parker of Pinnacle and Frances and Brother Junior Hicks of Siloam; a sister, Ester Warden of Blues Creek and a brother, Thurmond Spainhour of Winston-Salem; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren and 7 great-great-great grandchildren. In addition to parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Wilburn Edwards; a daughter, Nevada Hiatt; and three sons Calvin Edwards, Carl Edwards and Willie Richardson. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday December23, 2012 at Friendly Chapel Church by Brother Don Collins and Brother Junior Hicks with burial to follow in Mount Zion Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 to 8 pm where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state one hour prior to the service. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving and compassionate care.
