Virginia graduated from Amboy High School and the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She did private duty nursing for many years, and became the first school nurse for the Oak Hill Consolidated Schools in 1959. She held the position of school nurse until her retirement in 1974.
She attended Amboy Friends Church and Howard Miami Mennonite Church. Virginia was a member of the Jackson Homemaker Extension Club and the Pleasant Township Farm Club. She was a former 4-H leader, Bible school teacher, and Sunday school teacher. She and her husband, Fred, wintered in Braden Castle Park in Bradenton, Fla., for many years.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan and husband John Dahlkamp, Crown Point, and Mary Faye and husband Dale Birkey, Bunker Hill; grandchildren, Jeff and wife Jill Reisner, Jodie and husband Larry Bock, Brad and wife Kris Reisner, Jen Reisner, Ed Dahlkamp, Alex Dahlkamp, Tammy Brantley, Steven and wife Beth Birkey, Phillip Birkey and Jonathon Birkey; eight great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Pat and husband Bob Coy, Salem, Ohio, and Betty Reisner, Lake City, Mich.; and a sister-in-law, Roberta Larrison of Paoli.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; two sons, Thomas and John Reisner; brothers, Donald and wife Isabel and Glen Larrison; and sisters, Pauline and husband Ralph Childers, and Faye and husband Roy Rennaker.
A service celebrating the life of Virginia Reisner will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Howard-Miami Mennonite Church, 3976 E. 1400 South, Kokomo, with Pastor Randy Detweiler officiating. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery, Amboy. Family and friends will gather at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main St., Amboy, from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
