On Sept 26, 1946 she was united in marriage to Leroy Koch Jr in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple settled on a farm near Westside and were blessed with the birth of five children. In 1990 the couple moved to Westside and retired from the farm a year later. Norma began working at the Diner at this time, and enjoyed socializing with friends while there.
She was a loving, caring, gracious wife, mother, and grandmother with a devout and inspiring love for her Lord and Savior that is evidenced by the strength and faith she had as a member of the United Church in Westside. She was unselfish and considerate in every way, thinking of others before herself. She enjoyed the times she had with her family, cooking and helping them with their needs.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents,her husband Leroy; two sisters, Velma Craig and Lois Oeser; and one brother Al Oeser. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Ballentine of Vail; Gail Huisman and her husband Bruce of Des Moines; Kathy Stadtlander and her husband Darwin of Buffalo, Minnesota; two sons Bob Koch and his wife Mary of Des Moines; and Ron Koch and his wife Robin of Hartselle, Alabama; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters, LaVerne Burch of Van Nuys, California; Marian Hennings of Council Bluffs; two brothers, John "Jack" Oeser and his wife, Geri of Westside; Larry Oeser of Council Bluffs; and many other relatives and Friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Friday, May 28,2004 at the United Church in Westside,Iowa. Pastor Virginia Stiles officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Westside Cemetery. Janine Kock provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns "On Eagle's Wing's" and "In the Garden" Those serving as pallbearers were Michael Hennings,Dennis Maasen,Jim Namanny,Gregg Oeser,Steven Koch and Rick Lenz. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Community Building served by the United Church Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Westside was in charge of arrangements.
