Their life together began in Santa Ana, Calif. In 1971, the family settled in Pittsfield, Mass. Kitty was primarily a stay-at-home mom while her children were young. In 1976, she began her professional life of 30 years working for the Beloit Corporation.

In 1984, Kristin moved to Lanesboro and a few years later opened and operated The Whippletree B&B with husband Chuck. After the B&B, she and Chuck moved to Amherst, N.H., where they lived for 10 years.
