James H. "Buddy" Garrett, 86, of Limestone County died Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Decatur General Hospital.
Mr. Garrett was a farmer and lifelong resident of Limestone County and a member of the Belle Mina United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp during World War II. After graduation from Auburn, he returned to the family farm and became the fourth generation to farm the land that his great-great-grandfather purchased from the United States government in the early 19th century. His father was one of the founders of the Limestone Farmers Co-op in 1932. Mr. Garrett was the president of the gin at the Limestone Co-op.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Garrett; his wife, Bette Hulse Garrett; two sons, Tom and Jim Garrett; and his brother, Ed Garrett.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Beth Garrett; daughter-in-law, Donna Compton Garrett; and two nephews, Johnny and Pete Garrett.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Belle Mina United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vicki Tonini officiating. Burial will follow in Athens City Cemetery. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
