Mr. Geiger graduated from Reading High School and received a B.A. Degree from McNeese College, now University, Lake Charles, LA. He continued graduate work at Penn State University.
He served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War in Alaska, Italy and Alexandria, LA, where he met his wife, Naomi Mott Geiger. During his military career, he repaired aircraft.
Following 30 years as a teacher at Jefferson and Rupert Elementary Schools, Mr. Geiger retired from the Pottstown School District in 1987.
He was a charter member of New Covenant Baptist Church, Pottstown, PA since 1993. Mr. Geiger was active with the Gideons International and held state-level offices with his wife in the organization. He was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Franklin E. Geiger, Jr. age 77, of Frederick, PA, formerly of Pottstown and Reading, PA, died on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Surviving in addition to his precious wife of 53 years are:
Three sons: F. Edward Geiger III and his wife Natalie of Mechanicsburg, PA, Marshall A. Geiger and his wife Susan of Chesterfield, VA, and Samuel L. Geiger and his wife Susan of Douglassville, PA. Two brothers: Richard and Ronald Geiger of Reading, PA. Four sisters: Lucille Dettrich of Pottstown, PA, Joan Jennings of Reading, PA, Nancy Benoit of Reading, PA, and Shelia Scott of West Reading, PA.
He was particularly proud and enjoyed spending time with his eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Celebration Service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Frederick Mennonite Community (Auditorium), 2849 Big Road (Route 73), Frederick, PA. Rev. James Sutton and Chaplain Brad Mellon officiated. Interment was held privately at Highland Memorial Park in Pottstown, PA. Arrangements were handled by the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc. of Pottstown, PA.
