He had been in failing health for four years and was in his 76th years.
Born in Paris, France, October 19, 1863, he came to America with his parents at the age of 17. The family located in Butler county on the valley farm north of David City, which is now occupied by Peter and Katie Demuth.
He was united in marriage to Leonia Mueller in St. Mary's church, Luxemburg, April 11, 1892. To them were born seven children, of whom three have passed on. The surviving children are Mike A. Demuth of Creighton, Nick B. Demuth of Tilden, Miss Theresa Demuth of Plattsmouth and Mrs. Lucy Goetzinger of Hemingford.
Mr. Demuth is survived also by four sisters, Mrs. Caroline Medinger of David City, Mrs. Mary Mackel of Elgin, Mrs. Jennie Esch of Mason City and Miss Katie Demuth of David City and two brothers, John and Peter of David City.
Funeral services were held in the Carmel Catholic church in Tilden at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2 in charge of Rev. Father Built. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased. Burial was in Luxemburg cemetery by the side of the grave of Mrs. Demuth.
