Mrs. Carrie K. Burns, 92, of Ionia, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2000, at Spectrum Health East Campus, Grand rapids.

She was born on March 12, 1908, in Ionia and spent her entire life in Ionia, graduating from Ionia High School in 1926. She was the daughter of Burton and Julia Kanouse.

The former Carrie Kanouse married Leon Burns in Greenville and he preceded her in death in 1980. She had been employed at Michigan Reformatory in Ionia for 20 years as an accounting clerk before her retirement. She was an avid outdoors persona and liked to fish and hunt and spend free time reading.

Surviving is one daughter, Sally (Thomas) Edlin of Grand Rapids, and one son, Jerry (Wanda) Marcussen of Ionia; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Clyde and William Kanouse.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie K. Burns were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2000, at Cook Funeral Home, Ionia with the Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating and interment will be in Balcom Cemetery.

Visitation was on Sunday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the Rich St. Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, envelopes available at the Cook Funeral Home.
