Palmira (or Palmina) was born on Oct. 8, 1877 in Castilenti, Italy, the 5th of six children of Michele and Francesca (nee Tattone) DiPanfilo. She had siblings Ornella, Mildred, David, Frances & Mable. Aligi died as a baby in Italy. Her birth and marriage certificates lists her name as Candelora Palma DiPanfilo.
Palmira was 28 when she married Donato Francesco Calandra on Sep. 29, 1905 in Castilenti -- although they were both living in Penne, Italy at the time.
Donato arrived in New York on March 20, 1907 on the ship Sannio out of Naples. Palmira was about 30 when son Aligi was born in early 1907. She and Aligi then traveled to New York arriving on Sep. 2, 1907 on the ship Luisiana out of Naples, then traveling to Philadelphia to meet Donato.
She then had five children born between 1908 and 1915 in Philadelphia, they were Ornella, Aligi, Mildred, Frances, Onda and Mabel.
She was only 41 when she died of influenza on Feb. 12, 1920. She is buried along with her sister Candelora Tordone who died Aug. 9, 1933.

PALMIRA CALANDRA, residing at 237 N. Simpson, Philadelphia where she died at home on Feb. 12, 1920 at 1 p.m. from influenza at age 41. Burial at Fernwood Cemetery on Feb. 14, 1920.
Informant was husband Donato Calandra of same address. He stated she was born in Italy, birthdate listed as 1878. Her father was Michele Calandra [it was DiPanfilo] and mother was Francesca Dattone {actually Tattone], both born in Italy. [8/18/14]
