Oct. 23, 1935 - Feb. 23, 2012 Connie Sue Love Lawson, 76, passed away Thursday at her home in Vallejo, surrounded by her family. Connie was born to Clovis and Christine (Green) Love on Oct. 23, 1935 in Stella, Mo. In 1939, the family came to Vallejo where her father worked on Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

Connie attended Bay Terrace School, Federal Terrace School, Vallejo Junior and Senior High Schools, graduating in 1953. At the age of 50, she earned two A.A. degrees from Solano Community College. In 1998, she retired after 22 years of service with the Vallejo Unified School District.

Connie was a member of the National Society - Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) and the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) where she held several offices with both organizations. She also was a member of the American Canyon Red Hat Society and the House of Gordon Scottish Clan Society.

She was proud to have whitewater rafted for more than 21 years on numerous rivers in California, Oregon and Nevada with the most memorable being an eight day rafting trip on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and several areas of the United States.

Several years of her life were devoted to researching her Scots-Irish ancestors, tracing many back to the 15th century. She belongs to many Genealogical Societies. She loved history and was concerned about preserving American history. She was a member of Colonial Williamsburg Virginia Foundation, National Civil War Preservation Trust Foundation, Wilson Creek Missouri and Newtonia Missouri Battlefield Associations.

She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Bradley and Grant Lawson; and by her son, Matthew Lawson, in November 2010. Survivors include her daughter, Amy (Curtis) Lafferty and their children, Amanda, Kaitlyn, Adrianna and Brenden Lafferty; granddaughter, Julia (Gavin) Mabile and their daughter, Lila; and her brother, Kent Love.

Visitation will be held 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, and funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, all at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo, with a gathering following at the Vallejo Elks Club, 2850 Redwood Pkwy., Vallejo.

Her ashes will be buried with several generations of ancestors in the family plot at Hazelgreen Cemetery in Newton County, Mo., in a private ceremony at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to: The Hazelgreen Cemetery Foundation, Attn: Chester Bryant, Treasurer, 20725 Hwy #HH, Neosho, MO., 64850.
