Abram Schoonmaker, 84, died at New Paltz on Monday, April 10, 1967 after a brief illness.
Born in Gardiner, April 20, 1882, son of the late Selah and Magdaline LeFevre Schoonmaker, he lived at 17 Norton St., Newburgh until 1954.
After his retirement he located in the Town of Shawangunk. He was married to the former Edna L. Aldrich of Weehawken, N.J. in 1903. After her death in 1961 Mr. Schoonmaker moved to Marlborough to live with his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Kenneth Schoonmaker. Since 1966 he had made his home with his grandson, John K. Schoonmaker of 11 Delaware Rd., Town of Newburgh.
Mr. Schoonmaker was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Newburgh Lodge of Masons, Highland Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, Hudson River Commandery, Knights Templar, Masonic Veterans Association, and of Weehawken Lodge, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
He was employed by the West Shore Division of the New York Central Railroad for 48 years, retiring as a passenger conductor Jan. 31, 1954.
Survivors are one son, DuBois Wilson Schoonmaker of Haverstraw; one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth S., widow of Kenneth Schoonmaker who died in 1967; three brothers, Clarence L. of Gardiner, DuBois of the Town of Newburgh and John W. Schoonmaker of Poughkeepsie; five grandchildren, John K. Schoonmaker with whom he made his home, Elizabeth Schoonmaker, Judith Schoonmaker, Mrs. Betty Ann Morton and Shirley Hultman; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Perrotts' Funeral Home, 1 Grand Ave., Newburgh, will be conducted by Dr. John T. Burns, pastor of the Marlborough Presbyterian Church. Masonic Services were conducted on Wednesday evening at 7:30. Burial will be in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
