JOY JOHNSON PRATER, 83 years of age of Hurley, VA., passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Ida Justus Johnson. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was of the Christian faith. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was a wonderful homemaker.
Mrs. Prater was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Prater.
She is survived by 2 Daughters: Debra Prater Ward, Grundy, VA, Sharon Prater Hurley, Hurley, VA, 3-Sons: Gary Lee and wife Donna Prater, Lapear, Michigan, Kenny Prater, North Carolina, Randall Prater, Grundy, VA
She is also survived by 20-grandchildren and 32- great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Prater is preceded in death by 1- daughter: Judy Hurley Griffey, 1- Son: Donnie Hurley, 4- brothers: Lloyd, Elwood, Garrett and Julius Johnson, 3: Sisters: Stella Johnson Adkins, Bell Johnson Bishop and Birdie Johnson Justus.
Funeral Services for JOY JOHNSON PRATER will be conducted Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Prater and Rev. Wilburn Dotson officiating with burial to follow at the Charles Hurley Cemetery, Hurley, Virginia.
Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel, Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00P.M.
Active Pallbearers will be grandsons, family and friends.
