John Bales

John O. Bales, 79, of Princeton passed away at 6:45 a.m. Dec. 17, 2012, in his home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Helmer-Shields Funeral Home, Granville. Youth minister Curtis O'Dell will officiate. Burial will be at Granville Cemetery with full military honors by Granville American Legion and VFW. The U.S. Army will have a flag-folding ceremony.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the services in the funeral home.

Mr. Bales was born April 7, 1933, in Royal Oak, Mo., to Oliver and Alice (Willard) Bales. He married Mary Jane Galiher on April 6, 1957, in Hennepin United Methodist Church.

He retired from Caterpillar Tractor and was a member of Oglesby American Legion.

Survivors include one son, Don (Tammy) Bales of Princeton; one daughter, Lisa Wren of La Salle; three grandchildren, Ashley and Kyle Bales and Maysen Wren; three brothers, Willard (Olive) Bales of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Bill (Joanne) Bales of West Plains, Mo., and Jack (Marge) Bales of High Ridge, Mo.; and two sisters, Ellen Morris of Thomasville, Mo., and Jo Williams of Thomasville.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Don Bales; and one son-in-law, Brent Wren in 2010.

Mary Jane Galiher Bales, 58, of 420 Morris St., Oglesby died at 1:30 a.m. Oct. 27, 1996 in St Margaret's Hospital, Spring Valley, Ill.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Helmer-Shield Funeral Home, Granville. The Rev. Brian Eble will officiate. Burial will be in the Granville Cemetary. Visitation will be 6:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

She was born November 9, 1937, in Putnam County to Charles and Velma (Porter) Galiher. She married John Bales on April 6, 1957, in Hennepin.

She was a member of the Hennepin United Methodist Church and its women's group.

Survivors are her husband, John Bales; a daughter, Lisa Ann Bales of Carbondale; a son, Don Bales of Princeton; two grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Galiher of Granville; and five sisters, Hazel Weddell of Hennepin, Katherine Selbrede of LaSalle, Edna Greenwood of Granville, Betty Dzierzynski of Webster Park and Bonnie Nellum of Tucson, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.
