Betty grew up in Palmyra, Nebraska with her grandparents Nina Jane Irene Cline Strayer and Charles L. B. Strayer. She moved to Oregon as a teenager. Her hobbies included dancing, shopping, interior decorating, and traveling. She was a snowbird later in life and spent time in Yuma, Arizona.

She met her husband Carl in St Johns, Oregon and they were married in Vancouver, Washington on July 12, 1958. They had three children.

Betty could light up a room and was often the life of the party. She told the best stories and loved to visit with people. Her outgoing personality and distinct frizzy blonde hair made her unforgettable to those that crossed her path.

She is preceded in death by her parents Clarence Oliver Fivecoats and Helen Isabel Strayer Fivecoats and three siblings Clarence Floyd Fivecoats, Delbert Vyrle Fivecoats, and Shirley Marie Fivecoats Hatridge.
