ALLEN, Helen Turner Helen Turner Allen, 87, of Manchester beloved daughter of the late Adam and Cassie Tupka and mother of the late Debra Allen Spiegel passed away Saturday, (September 24, 2011) at Rockville General Hospital. Helen was born in Ansonia, CT on January 8, 1924, and after her schooling enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving her country during World War II. She had resided in Manchester for most of her life, working for more than 20 years for the Department of Social Services in the Manchester and Hartford offices. She enjoyed reading, knitting and her garden and loved having her two cats nearby. She also collected doll house miniatures. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and her favorite enjoyment was when she was with her grandchildren. Mrs. Allen is survived by a son, Robert J. Allen of South Carolina, a daughter, Linda M. Allen of Manchester, three grandchildren, Jeremy Spiegel, Heather Spiegel and Chandler Allen and several nieces and nephews. Helen was also predeceased by four brothers and a sister. Private burial services with military honors will be in East Cemetery, Manchester. There are no calling hours.
