Christian Albertus Hammond, retired farmer, died at his home 1078 South Potomac street, yesterday afternoon at 3:45 o'clock of complications after an illness of two months, aged 66 years. He was born and reared in the Downsville district and was the son of the late W. Kennedy and Harriett (Gower) Hammond. He was a member of the First Brethren Church of St. James.
Besides his wife, Mary Jane Hammond, he is survived by the following children: daughters, Mrs. Howard Cline, Williamsport; Mrs. Melvin Shatzer, Martinsburg and Mrs. Woodrow Guessford, this city; sons, Albert, Newark, Del.; Robert, this city; Walter, Fairplay; Samuel, Chewsville; Howard, Roanoke and Carl at home; sisters, Mrs. Annie Baker, Boonsboro, and brothers, John, Keedysville; Samuel, Martinsburg and George, Hagerstown.
The body was removed to the funeral home of A. K. Coffman where it may be viewed until Sunday morning at which time it will be removed to the late home where short services will be held at 2 p.m. with further services at the Lutheran Church at Bakersville at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. D. C. White officiating assisted by Rev. Harvey Hartman. Interment in cemetery adjoining.
