March 8, 2004, Columbus, OH - Mary E. Edgerton, age 89, of Columbus, formerly of Leetonia died Monday.

Mrs. Edgerton was born October 30, 1914 in Hanover Township, Columbiana County, a daughter of Leroy W. and Nova Humphrey Andre.

She was a graduate of Salem High School and had attended Kent State University. She began her teaching career in one-room schools which included Buzzard's Glory, Hornet's Nest, and Camp's School, all in Columbiana County.

She had been a schoolteacher at the Leetonia Exempted Schools for 24 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Leetonia, the United Church Women, the Columbiana County Retired Teachers Assn., and the Friends & Neighbors Club. Mrs. Edgerton enjoyed knitting and also played the piano.

Her husband, Gilbert J. Edgerton, whom she married Nov. 29, 1938, died Oct. 3, 1983.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Nova Jean) Carman of Cedarville, OH and Mrs. Ada Mary Thompson of Worthington, OH; a son, Ronald L. (Ruth Ann) Edgerton of Leetonia; a daughter in law, Roberta Edgerton of Worthington; seven grandchildren and six great granddaughters.

A son, William A. Edgerton, a grandson, Brian A. Carman, two sisters, Fae Stamp and Ellen Vaccarino and a brother, William L. Andre are also deceased.

Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Leetonia with Pastor James Gaston officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church.

If friends desire, material tributes may be made to the charity of the donors choice. Funeral arrangements were made by the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
