Freddie Albert Schmidt, 69, Miller, died Saturday, February 6, 1988, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Freddie was born November 5, 1918 near Rockham, to Fred and Lydia (Kasten) Schmidt. He attended school at Rockham and St. Lawrence and graduated from Rockham High School in 1936.

He married Vera Mowry July 20, 1941. They lived and farmed in Linn Township, Hand County until moving to miller in 1974.

Freddie served on the Linn Township board, the Rockham Farmers Elevator Board, the Hand city School Board, the Rockham Cemetery Board and the Farmers Home Administration Advisory committee. He also worked as an adjuster for the Federal Crop Insurance Program. He was a County commissioner offhand County for eight years and represented hand-Hyde Counties in the south Dakota State Legislature for two years. Freddie belonged to the Trinity Lutheran church in Miller where he formerly served as trustee. He was also a member of the miller Kiwanis.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Vera and three children, Mrs. Scott (Sharla) Worthen, Boise, ID; Mrs. Larry (Mavis) Johnson, Huron and a son and wife, Daryl and Sandy (Nuhsbaumer) Rockham; nine grandchildren, Michael, Terri and Mark Johnson, Boise, ID; Leslie and David Johnson, Huron and Tammy, Toni, Trinity and Billie Jo Schmidt, Rockham.

He also leaves to mourn, his stepmother, Mrs. Avis Schmidt, Redfield; half-brother, Milton Schmidt, Rockham and three half-sisters, Mrs. Argie Joyce, Redfield, Elaine Lingscheit, Ree Heights and Mrs. Marlene bottom, Tulare.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Active pallbearers will be Dale Oakley, Claude Levtzow, Dr. James Monfore, Virgil Lips, Jim Kolda and Dr. Norman Meriweather.

Honorary pallbearers include Ray and Vern Sinclair, the Domino players and coffee crew and all his many friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller, with the Rev. Fred Rosin officiating. Burial was in GAR Cemetery, Miller.
