Soldado Francisco Villagómez y Rodríguez was the son of Antonio Villagómez and María Rodríguez, both of Michoacan, México. He enlisted as a soldado de cuero (leather jacket) and was posted to Alta California where he married (1) the widow María Gertrudis (no surname) de Duarte, an Indian neophyte, at Mission San Antonio, November 11, 1782 (SAP Marriage 00157, ECPP). When she died, he married (2) María Viridiana Sobrevia at Mission San Antonio August 20, 1783 (SAP Marriage 00176, ECPP). Francisco died at Monterey and was buried in the Presidio Cemetery (San Carlos) December 12, 1783 (SC Death 00347, ECPP).
