Jeanne May Richards, 74, of Pleasantview Park, Bartonsville, formerly of Mount Pocono, died Wednesday, October 7th. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Alice (Burke) Majer of Pocono Pines.
Jeanne was a 1941 graduate of Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre, continuing her education at East Stroudsburg State College and graduating in 1957, proclaiming "It only took me sixteen years!!" She received her master's degree and supervisors certificate from Lehigh University in Bethlehem.
Her education led to a twenty eight year teaching career beginning in Reeders Elementary, Pocono Elementary and finally to Pocono Mountain School District as Reading Coordinator, K-12. Jeanne also taught at Lehigh University's Reading Clinic for over twenty-one summers. After her retirement, she proudly served on the school board of Pocono Mountain School District and taught part-time at the Gateway School in Easton.
She was an avid bowler and sports fan, especially tennis, golf and football. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and playing card games with family and friends.
One of her favorite past times was spending time with Leggs, the best puppy in the whole wide world that ever was. Her devoted and loyal puppy now resides with Jeanne's daughter, Kathy in Mount Pocono.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jeanne leaves three beloved daughters: Kathy May Louis of Mount Pocono; Bonnie May Grace of East Islip, N.Y.; and Carlyn May Phillips , wife of Kenneth Phillips of Virginia Beach, Va.
In addition to her beloved daughters, Jeanne is also survived by eight grandchildren: Maria Triano Boehning, wife of Robert Boehning of Tannersville; Robert Triano, husband of Michelle Boehning Triano of Shawnee; Dana Loverro Moccio, wife of Michael Moccio of Sayville, Long Island; Lara Loverro Ratzan, wife of Brian Ratzan of New York; James Triano, husband of Annette Dale Triano of Long Pond; Kimberly Phillips and Tiffany Phillips, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; Frank Loverro of East Islip, N.Y.; two loving great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Danielle Triano of Long Pond; a brother, Jack Majer of Pocono Pines; a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Merlyn and Marilyn May of Stroudsburg and their children, Tracy and Monika and granddaughter, Alyssa. In addition to her two special "adopted" sons: Donald Rohrbach of Scotrun and Patrick Noone of Mount Pocono, she also leaves behind many other cherished family members and treasured friends.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Joey Jeanne Loverro of East Islip, Long Island.
Her daughters would like to convey their heartfelt gratitude to all those who offered their love and support during their mother's illness. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Natale Falanga; the Coolbaugh Township Ambulance Corps.; her home nurse, Larry, and her nurses aid, Dori.
Friends may call on Friday, Oct. 9, from — to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the James M. Hook & Co., Funeral Directors, 35 Sterling Road, Mount Pocono.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at Mount Pocono United Methodist Church in Mount Pocono. Rev. John Charnock will officiate. Interment immediately following at Pocono Lake Cemetery.
Prior to her passing, Jeanne requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a scholarship fund in her name, to Pocono Mountain School District in Swiftwater.
