On first Ruby Team of Nelson College.
Lived in Nelson for 10 years then moved to Auckland.
John Angus was a Private in the 2nd Waikato Reg. and received the New Zealand War Medal 1860-1870.
John Angus was a Crown land agent.
6 Nov 1849 and 5 Nov 1853 Two Crown Grants on Herald Island, County of Eden, Auckland were conveyed to Hugh Clark for the sum of 800 pounds. The two sections were 20 acres and 80 acres, the whole of Herald Island. He intended to retire there. (Sold by John Angus Clark 16 May 1873 to Henry Stubbings)
Jan 1853 are of 1 Rood, 32 perches on the lower end of Cook St. at junction with Union St, Auckland granted for one hundred pounds (together with John McFarlane) This allotment conveyed to John Angus Clark Dec. 1875.
25 July 1854 for 50 pounds sterling granted one hundred and ten acres. Waipareira Grant, Allotment 28, Situated at Kumeu Creek, County of Eden.
17 Mar 1855 bought Norman Hills Road, Onehunga, County of Eden. quarter acre section overlooking harbour. (sold to George Codlin 1872 by John Angus).

Bankrupt in 1881, transferred Junction Hotel in Katikati to his brother, Archibald Hugh Clark. Sold all the furnishings to his brother-in-law George H. Whitcombe, owner of the Masonic Hotel, Tauranga.
Closely identified with business interests of Tauranga.
Local agent for the Public Trustee. Deep interest in School affairs, had been chairman.

Took to his bed suddenly Friday 11 May 1912 and died 11:30 a.m. next day.
"Death: John Angus Clark at his Edgecombe Rd. Tauranga, residence 12th May 1912. Funeral at 2:30 Pm 14 May 1912."
