Ethel Lucile, the daughter of Lewis and Ella (Grodeland) Larson on May 24, 1922, in Emmett County. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in 1936. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer where she attended grade school and graduated from Spencer High School in 1940.

On March 30, 1941, she married Richard Harold Barber in Spencer. Following their marriage they lived most of their lives in and around Laurens, Marathon and Schaller. Mrs. Barber held numerous jobs, eventually becoming a full partner in her husband's trucking business. If asked, she enjoyed her job of being wife and mother the most.

Mrs. Barber enjoyed camping, going to garage sales and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Norman Larson and one sister Esther Jensen.

Mrs. Barber is survived by her husband Richard of Panora; one son and his wife Richard (Rick) and Joan Barber of Linden; one daughter and her husband Mary and Lyle Archer of Council Bluffs; four grandsons and their wives and four great-grandchildren.
