Patricia A. Mellen, 91 of Milan, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 27, 2009, in Providence Care Center, Sandusky.

She was born Nov. 17, 1917, in the Greenville section of Jersey City, N.J., daughter of the late Nora J. (Farmer) and Benjamin P. Treacy. Patricia was a graduate of Sacred Heart grammar school and Academy of St. Aloysius in Jersey City and attended Notre Dame College of Staten Island, N.Y. She worked as a medical lab technician at Norwalk General Hospital, Norwalk, Conn. While in Norwalk, Patricia met her husband, Dr. John R. Mellen. On Nov. 7, 1942, they were married in Our Lady Chapel, at St. Patrick Cathedral, New York City. They later settled in Milan where they operated a medical practice until their retirement in 1985. Dr. Mellen preceded her in death, May 16, 2001.

Patricia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Milan.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Anne Mellen of Huron and Mary Monica (Bernard) Granger of Marion, Ohio; sons, John Robert Mellen Jr. of Sandusky, Michael Andrew (Nicola) Mellen of Harrowgate, England, Joseph Patrick (Mary Catherine) Mellen of Cincinnati, Mark Anthony Mellen of Toledo, Peter James Mellen of Savannah, Ga., and Timothy Paul Mellen of Huron; grandchildren, Jennifer, Patrick and James Mellen, Travis, Maggie and Alison Granger, Brendan, Michael, Lily Anna and Elliot Mellen; and great-grandson, Andrew Mellen-Smolek.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Finan Lynch, Monica Donnelly and Joan Dodd.

Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday in Groff Funeral Home, Milan Chapel, One S. Main St. Prayers will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Main Street, Milan. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
