JOE'S OBITUARY
U.S. Veteran
Joe Delbert Collins, born August 15, 1939 in Livingston, Texas to Addie Richard Collins and Avie Mae Day Collins, and passed away on March 18, 2020 at Tarkington Prairie, Liberty County, Texas at the age of 80 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Helen Collins Williamson Coker; nephew, Carlton Williamson; niece, Corliss Williamson Hiney; niece, Teresa (Teri) Ludecke Faubion and husband Kirk Faubion. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie Jean Verbeck Collins; daughter, Melissa Collins Dowden of Tarkington Prairie, Texas; sons, Richard Price Collins and wife, Lanelle of Cleveland, Texas, Larry Joe Collins of Livingston, Texas, and John Richard Collins and partner Ashley of Splendors, Texas; sisters, Patricia Collins Burnett and husband Willie, and Helen Arlene Collins Timmons; 7 grandchildren, Jason, Joseph, Jesse, James, Jennifer, Dylan, and Jade; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, in-laws, family members, and friends.

Joe graduated from Big Sandy High School, Big Sandy, Texas class of 1958. He served in the United States Army, and worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, now known as Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and hunter, and loved reading books. His great-grandchildren called him Candyman and he loved to spoil them. He was husband, Dad, Pawpaw and Candyman.

Burial will be at Holly Grove Cemetery, Livingston (Holly Grove), Polk County, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
