ELI F. HUSTON

Returning home Thursday night from the annual reunion of Fayette County Veterans, Eli F. Huston, 82 years old, one of the oldest residents of Dawson, was striken with pneumonia during the night and died Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. On leaving home for Uniontown, Mr. Huston was apparently in his usual health and insisted on attending the reunion of his comrades. It is thought that he contracted a cold while making the street car trip. Mr. Huston was a son of the late William and Rebecca Hutchinson Huston. He was born in Tyrone, now Lower Tyrone township, July 29, 1835. He attended school at the Cochran district school and assisted his father on the farm. September 21, 1861, he enlisted in Company E, 85 Pennsylvania volunteer Infantry. He participated in the battle of Fair Oaks. He was mustered out on November 22, 1864. In 1872 he was made foreman at Jimtown for the Cochran & Brown Coke works. He was also a pit boss. For 10 years he was superintendent of the Fort Hill mine and coke works of the W. J. Rainey.

Previous to going to Fort Hill he was fire boss for the H. C. Frick Coke company, at Leisenring No. 1. He lived retired since 1887. In politics, he was a Democrat.

July 4, 1872, Mr. Huston was married to Catherine Hough. In addition to his widow, Mr. Huston is survived by the following children: Mrs. J. L. Cochran, wife of Dr. Cochran of Connellsville; Miss Harriet Huston at home; David W. Huston of Uniontown; Mrs. William G. Duncan of Connellsville; Mrs. S. J. I. Morningstar and Mrs. Percy Sharps of Dawson. Four sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Strickler, Mrs. Emma Galley of Vanderbilt, Mrs. Anna Jenkins of St. George, W. Va.; Mrs. Rachel Soverns of Dawson and three grandchildren also survive. Mr. Huston was a member of the Cochran Memorial Methodist Church at Dawson and has a wide circle of friends in the community in which he spent all his life.

Funeral Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence, with Rev. H. A. Baum officiating. Interment in Cochran cemetery.
