Robert Patrick Rouse, known as Pat to all, was born in Chariton to James Robert and Esther (Tickle) Rouse, on March 17, 1944. He entered into rest on Sept. 20, 1994, at his home, after a short battle with cancer, at the age of 50 years, six months, and three days. Pat lived his early years in Chariton, graduating in the class of 1963. He was drafted into the Army in May of 1965. While in the service, Pat was united in marriage to Emilene Whitlatch, on July 13, 1966, at the Little Brown Church. After being discharged from the service, they resided in Knoxville for four years. In 1971, the moved to the Belinda area, and were blessed with the birth of a son, Jeffrey John; and again in 1976, with a daughter, Jennifer Joy. Pat had a great love for automobiles. After attending Indian Hills Auto-Body school, Pat worked in different body shops in Marion and Lucas County. Pat was a dedicated husband and father. One of his favorite pastimes was going camping with his family, and attending music festivals, at which he made so many friends over the years. He was preceded in death by his father. Pat is survived by his wife Emilene, children Jeff and wife Alicia in Elizabethtown, Ind., and Jenny at home; and his mother, Esther Rouse of Chariton. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, 1994, at the Fielding Funeral home, with the Rev. Lynn Elrod officiating. Burial was in the Gosport Cemetery. Serving as bearers were Chad Irving, Tom Jessip, Harold Cobb, John Rouse, Leonard Sams, Larry Wilson, and John Turner. Memorials may be made to the Columbia Fire Station, or to the Hospice of Central Iowa.
