She had been a resident of Fishersville for the past 7 years, residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Wadley.
Ethel was born October 20, 1921 in Coventry, Rhode Island. She was the oldest child of nine children born to the late Henry and Laura Greenhalgh. Five of her siblings survive her, and all reside in Rhode Island.
On October 24, 1942, Ethel married Lester G. Simpson who died in September, 1989. They enjoyed a very happy marriage for almost 47 years.
In addition to her daughter, Ethel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Christine Simpson of Wilmington, North Carolina. To cherish the memory of their beloved Grandma are Ethel's two grandchildren, Michael L. Simpson of Ellicott City, Maryland, and Sarah E. Simpson of Falls Church, Virginia.
Ethel was a member of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church in Fishersville where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Study Sunday School Class. She attended the Waynesboro Senior Center and the church sponsored Senior Citizens Luncheons.
Ethel will be buried with her late husband in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, Rhode Island.
