Prince of Mercia. The ruler or sub-King of Hwicce, he ruled from ca 675 to 679. He is also called the King of Hwicce, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. He is said to have been baptized not long before the year 670, and is known as the founder of the monastery of Bath from the history of that establishment. As the sub-King of Hwicce, he ruled under the overlordship of King Aethelred of Mercia and was possibly a joint-sub-King who ruled with his brother Oswald. Oswald later ruled from c.685 to c.690. As ruler of this sub-Kingdom or Province, Osric was also called a "minister" or "vicarius" and is mentioned as such, along with his brother Oswald, in a charter issued by Aethelred in 679.
