Mr. Griffin loved his work. His job was second only to his family. He enjoyed working with his dozers, backhoes, tractors, trucks and equipment. He will be remembered for saying "Being in that dozer seat is like being in my recliner at home."
He was a long time member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a 32nd Degree Free and Accepted Mason. He was a member of the Georgetown Lodge No. 298 F&AM, member of the Monroe Scottish Rite Bodies, and International Operators Union Local No. 406
Mr. Griffin was the son of the late Odie Griffin and the late Lelia Wilks Griffin and was also preceded in death by two brothers A. J. Griffin, J. B. Griffin Sr., and one nephew Jimmy Griffin Jr.,
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 36 years Carolyn White Griffin, three daughters Dr. Brenda Hanson and husband Dr. Tom of Natchitoches, Sharon Lee Griffin Friedman of Natchitoches, Angie Smith Taylor of Flomaton, AL, one sister Dorothy Long and husband Jimmy of Natchitoches, two brothers E. A. "Doc" Griffin and wife Jackie of Calvin, Delbert Griffin and wife Rhonda of Jonesboro, and, four grandchildren, Shannon Naylor and husband Tim, Shawn Scroggins and wife "T.K.", Alan Michael Zimmerman and Jada, and Taylor Zimmerman, seven great-grandchildren, Trevor, Tanner, Leslie, Luke, Aaron, Kensley, Kaylie Beth and Landon.
Mr. Griffin is also survived by numerous nieces, nephew, cousins, as well as a host of friends and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, in Calvin under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Southern Funeral Home, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM , and again on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, from 1:00 PM until time of services.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Bill Griffin, Robbie Griffin, Kenny Reitsman, David Griffin, Matthew Dickerson, and Alan "Buster" Carson.
Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Cemetery Fund.
