Marion O. Dick Hilliard A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands now rest, God proved to us he only takes the best. Marion O. Dick Hilliard of Savannah, GA. died peacefully from complications of Alzheimer's disease at the age of 81 on December 15, 2011 at his daughter's home in Fayetteville, NC. Dick was born in Odum, GA. to Jessie Odum and George W. Hilliard on May 8, 1930. He served with honor in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Following discharge, he settled in Savannah, attended Armstrong State College and married Candis Mills of Laurel, MS. Like several of his other Hilliard brothers, he became a restaurateur for many years in Savannah and Statesboro, GA. Later, he worked for Jim Walter Homes and retired from that corporation in 1995. He lived his life for his faith in the church and his family. He had such a genuine care for people around him and never met a stranger. He had a real, unselfish love of people, along with a real love for life. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Mark Hilliard of Savannah. He is survived by his three remaining children, Marshall Hilliard, Jessica Hilliard, Faith Hilliard, and his only grandchild/best friend, Gage Minchey. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A small candle-light vigil to honor Marion O. Hilliard will be held in Savannah at a date yet to be set. If interested in attending, please e-mail [email protected] to have your name added to the contact list.
