Ex-Greene Mayor, Dies
"Norwich - J. Fred Denison, 88, former Mayor of Greene, died Friday at the home of Mrs. Minnie Cline in Greene, where he had made his home for the past 15 years.
Mr. Denison was former owner of the Chenango American, weekly newspaper. His father, the late Jared Denison, founded the paper in 1855. After his death his son carried on the business until 1929 when he sold it to Norman Wescott, who four years later sold it to the present owner, Oscar Swenson.
Mr. Denison is survived by two nieces.
He was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church of Greene. He served as Mayor for several terms. He was also a charter member of the Greene Rotary Club and a member of the Eastern Light Lodge 126, F. & A. M. Of Greene."
