Marland "Chief" Hays, 77, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with the Rev. Fred Palmer of Pampa officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.

Marland was born Feb. 23, 1935, in Gerty, Okla., to Jeff and Evelina Hays. He served his country in the Navy and then went to work for a packing plant in Pampa. Marland married Sandra Keeler in 1982 in Ardmore, Okla. Marland retired from Conoco-Phillips Petroleum Co. in 1997 after 23 years of service. In 1999, Marland and Sandra bought Old Santa Fe Lounge and owned it ever since. They moved to Amarillo in 2001. Marland loved to play pool, especially 3-ball, with the "young-uns," as he called them. He especially loved being around his customers at Santa Fe Lounge; he enjoyed and loved them all. He loved to gamble and loved to go to Las Vegas. Marland also loved the outdoors, working in the yard, hunting, fishing and camping. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be deeply missed.

Marland was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Brown; seven sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Hays of Amarillo; two daughters, Annette Graves and Angie Brown, both of Amarillo; a son, Kelly Brown and fiance Nikki Segovia of Hereford; a stepson, Kenneth Cowen of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Deannia Smith of West Virginia; a sister, Doris Puckett of Pampa; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
