Paul Bennett, 83, Henderson, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville after suffering a brain aneurysm two days earlier.

Mr. Bennett was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. He grew up in Zion and graduated from Hebbardsville High School. Mr. Bennett spent most of his working life driving a truck. He also owned and operated Pearson's Tavern from 1964 until 1972. After he sold the tavern, Mr. Bennett joined Lewis Brothers Bakeries (Bunny Bread) in Evansville as an over-the-road tractor-trailer driver. He retired from Lewis Brothers in 1991. Even in "retirement," Mr. Bennett continued working, and served as a driver for local lawyers and a transporter for local car dealerships. Most recently, Mr. Bennett was a transporter for Henderson Chevrolet and made trips as recently as two weeks ago. Mr. Bennett was a horse racing fan and an avid gardener and took pride in and fussed over his tomato crop. He shared his tomatoes and other vegetables with friends and neighbors.

His wife, Jean, died in Febuary 2009; and their son, Kevin, died in 2001.

Mr. Bennett is survived by two daughters, Raye Ann McNeish and her husband, Wayne, of Henderson, Jo Bennett and her companion, Molly Kellogg, of Philadelphia; three sisters, Mary Sue Kries of Georgetown, Ky., Mildred Connaway of Henderson and Martha Cline and her husband, Bobby, of Bowling Green; two brothers, Harry Bennett and his wife, Sug, and Robert Bennett and his wife, Virginia, both of Henderson; three grandchildren, Drew Hopson and his wife, Crystal, Brea Rich and her husband, Terry, and Melissa Bennett; two stepgrandchildren, Tiffany Basham and Kristin McNeish; three great-grandchildren, Laynie, Cooper and Jillian; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Zach, Riley and Reese; nieces and nephews.
