Biography
Richard was born on 01 Jun 1644 (alternately in 1639) in Upper Parish, Isle of Wight County, Virginia, son of Gov. Richard Bennett (Sr.) and Anne (maiden name unknown), the widow of Councillor John Utie. He was an educated man, having attended Harvard College. Richard died in 1667.

Richard Bennett, Jr. married about 1662 in St Mary's County, Maryland to Henrietta Maria Neale (1647-1697), who was from a prominent Catholic family in Maryland. (NOTE: according to Will probated May 6, 1657, he probably died sometime in 1657). After residing for most of his life in Maryland, he died about 1667 by drowning at sea and was buried at Wye House Cemetery in Easton, Talbot County, Maryland. His father, Gov. Richard Bennett made his last Will in 1674 which was probated in 1676 in Nansemond County and in London, England. The Governor left the bulk of his estate to his grandson, Richard Bennett, 3rd (on of Richard Bennett, Jr, deceased). Most sources place his death in 1667. What can be said is that his death occurred between 1667 and 1674 based on the birth of his son, Richard Bennett, 3rd (1667) and the making of his father's Will in 1674. His namesake son, Richard Bennett, III (1667-1749) became one of the wealthiest planters in Maryland but died without issue.
